Chapter 23: Natalia

“Harmony’s Bake Shoppe, this is Natalia,” I sang into the phone.

“Yes, I’d like to place an order for seventy cupcakes. Thirty-five blueberry cheesecake and the other half, almond with the earl grey butter cream,” the guy replied.

“Braxton?” I smiled.

“How could you tell?” he quizzed.

“Well, you didn’t try to disguise your voice,” I chuckled.

“I know, I know. But I really wanna place that order,” he replied.

“When do you need it?” I asked.

“In two weeks, for my baby mother’s birthday.”

“Oh, well that’s nice of you,” I nodded as I wrote down the details.

“Yeah, we aren’t together or anything,” he said.

“Why did you say it like that? I don’t care,” I frowned. We were just associates, yet he was telling me this as if we were building something.

“Oh yes, I forgot you’re off limits,” he sighed.

“Very. Now are there any specific little decorations you’d like on the cupcakes? Or just top them with frosting?” I inquired.

“If you guys could put something on it that would be great,” he responded.

“Alright, is this delivery or pick up?"

“Would you be delivering them if I chose delivery?” he questioned in a flirty tone.

“Braxton,” I said in a serious tone. All this flirting from him and River was annoying the fuck out of me. Don’t people have any respect for marriage anymore?

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry I had to,” he chuckled. “But I can pick them up.”

“Okay, so the cupcakes are $560, plus $50 for the decorations placed on each. So you’re looking at $610,” I told him.

“That’s perfectly fine.”

“Okay, and we take a fifty percent deposit before we start. So I would have to collect $305 before we begin baking, I folded my arms and waited for his response.

“Look at you Ms. Business woman. I have a card here,” he giggled and I rolled my eyes.

After taking his card number over the phone and tying up the details, I was ready to go home. I had to work on some other recipes and I wanted to be done by the time Julius called me. I hated that he was in Indiana all the time, but I knew he had to work. He only stayed there three days out of the week, but it seemed like way more.

“Natalia, this just came,” my employee Nikki walked in with a huge bouquet of roses.

“Oh my gosh, who are they from?” I asked.

“Not sure,” she shrugged and then skated off to the front.

Just a little something to say I love you and miss you. Julius, the note read.

I squealed and then sniffed the flowers. Despite our extremely rocky start together, he was the greatest in the world.

“Okay ladies, we have another bulk order, but it’s not due for two weeks, so we will start at 5am on the day it is supposed to be done,” I told the girls and my new baking/managing assistant Latoya.

“Got it. Have a good day Natalia,” they all replied in unison.
